EXPLORE NM and ENCAUSTIC PAINTING, JUNE 23-25
EXPLORE NEW MEXICO and ENCAUSTIC PAINTING June 23, 24, 25
Since so many of my students come from afar, I thought it would be a wonderful experience for you to have the opportunity to see some of our deep and amazing heritage while you are here..both Native American as well as Hispanic. To that end, I am teaming up with Robbie O'Neill of Cultural Treasures to provide you with a day of exceptional experiences.
We will meet at the studio for the first day, introducing you to Encaustic if you are new to it, refreshing and enhancing your skills if you have been doing it for awhile. As always, we will discuss, safety, materials, techniques, and your approach to painting. We will make some paintings, spend the next day exploring, and then the third day incorporate our experiences into our art. How has what you've seen moved you, what does it mean to you, and how can you use it in your expression?
Special tour offering for Wednesday, June 24, 2015 will be: – Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Feast Day and Dance. This is the Pueblo’s annual Geronimo Dance which is magical, colorful and enchanting. A wonderful cultural experience and one not to be missed. The tour includes visiting the Pueblo, lunch at El Rancho de Chimayo, an iconic restaurant loved by locals and tourists alike, a visit to El Santuario de Chimayo and a hammered tin demonstration by 6th generation Chimayo artist, Sharon Candelario.
An optional fourth day will explore the galleries in Santa Fe.
The workshop will be suitable for those new to Encaustic, as well as those with more Encaustic Painting experience. We will cover all the basics, as well some new techniques..with an emphasis on what is involved in translating your ideas and impressions into your paintings.
