"Two Artists, Two Points of View"

THe workshop was a great success,spread over two studios, space for work, and space for talks,with women from all over the country participating:



Each of us brings a unique perspective, rooted perhaps in similarities, but diverging when it comes to application. This will be more than additional techniques, but give each participant insight into the approaches of each of the artists. What is the same, what is different. Two instructors will give a greater opportunity to work individually with you, and to help you to find your individual voice in the encaustic medium.

Koment, 30"x24" encaustic/panel

 This is the first time Ellen and Shawna have collaberated to bring the best of each of our worlds to artists with some encaustic experience, or new to the medium. You will learn each of our special techniques and approaches, from the beginning on. How to get the surface you want, dry pigment techniques, achieving your artistic aim, demos on getting a smooth surface, drawing into the wax surface, using water based paints between layers of wax, and pigment stick use. And most importantly, what will occur as a creative force between the two of us, and you. We are very excited about doing this together, and hope you will join us!

           Sometimes there  is something that you really want to learn, or you're doing something and something isn't working.  And you know that Ellen has been doing encaustic for 25 years or so, and yes, she can answer your questions. She has been teaching for over 25 years, and was awarded for teaching over a thousand students! Held in my beautiful studio in historic Las Vegas New Mexico! And what are the possible topics? I am beginning , how do I approach it? DO I want to learn about techniques and how to use this ancient medium.. how do you begin with this medium that is 2000 years old. All about color , how do I learn about color? Color was the first college class I ever taught, having studied at Cooper Union, with teachers who also taught with Albers at Yale.
